Welcome to this week's blog post, I hope you are enjoying all the puddles!
We have been delivering bags of fun to some of you, we still have more to deliver and will let you know when we are in your area.
This week we also started making activity packs containing simple activities with resources we could find. If you are unable to collect one, you should be able to do a similar activity at home with any resources that you may have.
We have our own YouTube channel and add new videos on a regular basis, please have a look here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbkwxf-N6itovXSlLABZRyA
Here are some ideas of activities you can try at home;
Building with tooth picks and playdough or mini marshmallows, this will help develop fine motor skills.
Making
shakers
For
this you can use bottles or containers such as the ones from bisto gravy or
coffee or even socks etc. Fill them up with resources such as pasta, rice,
coins etc anything that you can find in your house. Put the lid back on if you
can try to glue it on so doesn't come undone, now you have a shaker. You can
even decorate them. Further to this activity you can try and shake the shakers
so the children can't see and ask them to guess what do they thing is making
that noise. Is it the rice? Pasta ? They will learn to distinguish between the
sounds.
This
activity helps children to develop their listening skills which help to develop
the ability to discriminate between and identify sounds and understand
them. This skills are important and crutial for the development if speech,
phonological awareness and ultimately reading.
